Our country lies in a political hotspot, compounded with its own internal political environment, because of its historical background. Situated at the crossroads at four horizons of geographical conflict, it is occasionally requested to participate politically or militarily with the focus points of intensity and conflicts that surround it.

The geographical location of the Aegean Sea with scattered Greek islands, control of communications, the degree that the modernization outburst of military transportallows, and the predominant place of Crete in the center of the eastern Mediterranean basin with its navy and aviation facilities, makes our country a strategic area of international importance. An advantage or disadvantage that, unfortunately, is analogous with the respective situation of our neighbor country, Turkey, another member of NATO.

In Austria, the heart of the once glorious Austro-Hungarian Empire, there live a few thousand Greeks, which found a suitable place there to shine, continuing a tradition of centuries. In Vienna, the capital of the empire of the Hapsburgs, the Greek Diaspora wrote some of the brightest pages of its history. There, "the workshop of the new Greek philology" was established and national benefactors and leaders of the national revolution lived, who played an important role in the maturation of the Modern Greek state.
